casting my electrons to the solar winds .... Looking for a couple of non high end ( or one high end and a dozen or so "others") Sound cards that SuSe (7.0/7.1) will install correctly , by default. Mainly looking for things I can put a "warning" type sound of our own creation, to get the attention of supervisors, users , etc. Not soo keen on htier being able to listen to full hifi dolby version of Beathoven , Brahms, or Axel Rhodes, for that matter. THe one "good" card , would be for moi , price less of an interest than ease of install and defaault recognition by the installation program would be nice. ( You know what they always say about the Shoemaker's children? That applies here as well <sigh> one other teansey thing, if someone could point me to install of the dictionery/spell checker ? THe one that's suposed to be system wide ... so I can at least attempt to spell check some of these emails. Probably all would be greatful <VBG> ( see ref above re Shoemaker's kids for why I haven't done it m'sel' ) TIA for all help advanced ... You can pick up your extra Karma points at the World Bank for Karmic Influences , or have them automagically transfered to your account there , should you desire. <VBG> Blondely j afterthought: Go ahead ... make my data!

Not sure what you would deem "non high end" but I've got an old Sound Blaster PCI that I believe I snagged for around 20 bucks. SuSE 7.0 found and configured it poifectly. I'm currently using a SoundBlaster Live! that I picked up for around 45 bucks. Very nice card for the mp3-oriented sysadmin ;^)

Thanks, I need them. I'm pretty sure I'm already overdrawn! <VVBG> Ken

You can check the SuSE hardware database (www.suse.com click on "Supported Hardware") and another good place is the Linux Hardware Database http://lhd.datapower.com/ -- Jeremy [jeremy@wellsgaming.com]
