[opensuse] Display problems
I'm running Leap 42.3 on a Dell Precision m6400 laptop. Core2 Quad Q9000, 8GB RAM, ATI Firepro m7740(RV740/M97 GL) The laptop has a DisplayPort on it and I have a dock that has the Displayport & a Dual-Link DVI connector. I have an HP ZR2740w that has a native resolution of 2560x1440 (or 1440p). This monitor doesn't have an onscreen display, but it has Display Port & Dual Link DVI connectors. This is a fresh install. When I connect with the DisplayPort cable, it is detected on the laptop & the dock but I get nothing on the screen. The system recognizes it(X & using xrandr) is there but no matter what resolution I try I get nothing. The light on the display shows it's asleep(solid orange). When I connect with a Dual Link DVI cable to the dock(which supports a max res of 2560x1600), it only allows 1440x900 or 1280x720, and will only work at 1280x720. When I try to use 1440x900 the light on the display just blinks blue. The Firepro card has 1GB RAM, so it's got plenty for the 27" LCD and the onboard 1440x900 LVDS. I also tried it with my Thinkpad T60p(firegl 5200 with 512MB) with the dock's DVI connector and it only works at 1440x900. I had Windows 7 on the Dell before and it only worked at 1440x900. The laptop would lock up when playing video(which seems to be a common problem under windows with this card). I'm using the stock ATI driver. I didn't see a proprietary driver to install. I'm at my wits end. Any suggestions? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

https://www.cnet.com/products/hp-zr2740w/specs/ suggests to me your display is defective, in that it should have OSD (if not to report trouble, at least for manual configuration, such as height and width tweaking). Do you not have any way to try a different display with the dock, or the display with a different PC or laptop, to narrow down the problem's source? -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. They are wrong. According to HP it doesn't have an OSD: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02974836 Also, review at Anandtech: https://www.anandtech.com/show/5636/hp-zr2740w-high-resolution-ips-that-does... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have other LCDs, but that's the only one with DisplayPort. I only have 1 DP cable as well. I know the monitor works. It showed up before under Win7 at full resolution, but the video card locked up due to the drivers. Which is why I went ahead and switched it to Linux. The docks works fine with my 20" Dell with the DVI cable at 1680x1050. That's the highest display I have access to right now other than the HP. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I just tried it with my Thinkpad T60p connected to the dock. It works just fine at 2560x1440. However, for some reason, which I think is a limit on the laptop, when I try to configure it seperately from the LVDS on the laptop, it crashes the screen and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to get out of it. When I log into X, the HP is set at 1280x720(xrandr only shows that and 2560x1440 for the LCD on the DVI). When I config it to 2560x1440, it works, but it bleeds over onto the onboard LCD of the laptop about 1/2 way. Again, I think it's a limitation on the laptop for that. xrandr shows a max of 8192x8192 with the firegl 5200, so it should technically work. OR, I could have a bad video chip on this board, that doesn't show it until I hit it. I have 2 other motherboards, so I will have to try another one when I get time. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
