[opensuse] Starting at 08:00, we're electing a new member for the Swiss federal council. (Bundesrat)
Members of the federal council are elected by the combined parliament, ie. the Ständerat (46 members, elected by the states) and the Nationalrat (200 members, elected by the people). This is one of the few events that require the presence of the combined parliament. In June, Didier Burkhalter announced he would be stepping down by the end of October, slightly early. To replace him, we have three candidates: Isabelle Moret, kt. Vaud, age 46, lawyer, MP. Ignazio Cassis, kt. Tessin, age 56, dr.med., MP. Surrendered his Italian citizenship to be eligible. Former field surgeon of 9th Mountain Rangers. Pierre Maudet, kt. Genf, age 39, lawyer, former Mayor of Geneva, currently Director of Police and Minister of Trade in Geneva. Cassis is tipped as a winner, but he's a little too right-wing for my taste. I think Pierre Maudet would be a good choice. Experienced in government and young. All three speak fluent German. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (10.3°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Apologies, that was meant for opensuse-offtopic. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (10.7°C) http://www.cloudsuisse.com/ - your owncloud, hosted in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

God... It's just refreshing to see actual discourse and deliberation in the democratic process -- regardless of the list :) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for the kind words David :-) Ignazio Cassis won, the votes were over around 10 o'clock. He subsequently held a "thank you" speech in three languages (Italian, French and German). I consider him to be very astute, even if I would not have voted for him. Enough - this is so way off-topic. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (11.2°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
