did both of what you said but nothing happened, so i rewrote my own named.conf file and it began to work dunno why so, there were no typos they were exact when i compared but it worked with my version but now the suse version now im trying to transfer my primary domain server from on old primary to this system and internic is claiming that the new system is not the SOA do im a bit baffled, matice

bind runs in a chroot /var/lib/named. look in /var/lib/named/log.
Also make sure you have uncommented the relevant logging options in named.conf
