i have 3 hd hp 18.2 map3367nc (id:00 lun:00) last drive on the cable fujitsu map3367nc (id:01:lun:00) ibm-esxs map3367np (id:02 lun00) first drive on the cable under linux, my root system is on the hp hd... sometime the harddrive fail all my hd is on the channel b aic7899: Ultra160 Wide Channel B, SCSI Id=7, 32/253 SCBs target1:0:0: FAST-80 WIDE SCSI 160.0 MB/s DT (12.5 ns, offset 127) target1:0:1: FAST-80 WIDE SCSI 160.0 MB/s DT (12.5 ns, offset 127) target1:0:2: FAST-80 WIDE SCSI 160.0 MB/s DT (12.5 ns, offset 127) (scsi1:A:0:0): Unexpected busfree in Data-in phase SEQADDR == 0x84 SCSI error : <1 0 0 0> return code = 0x10000 end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 8451 SCSI error : <1 0 0 0> return code = 0x10000 end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 8459 SCSI error : <1 0 0 0> return code = 0x10000 end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 8467 SCSI error : <1 0 0 0> return code = 0x10000 end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 8475 target1:0:0: FAST-10 SCSI 10.0 MB/s ST (100 ns, offset 15) i don't understand the problem... does i need to put my last hd near of the cable terminaison? does the first hd on the cable need to have id 0... any idea? thanks

i don't understand the problem...
I'll take a guess: The scsi controller is telling you that dev sda (the first drive) has bad sectors. Sounds like the drive is dying?? Especially if it is as you say "sometimes the harddrive fail".
