I need to get a new video card and was looking at nvidia. What, in your personal opinion, would be the best nvidia card to get for under $150.00? I don't need HDTV or video out or anything else really. Basically I want it for games. I have an Abit motherboard with 4x AGP. I have a GeForce3 ti-200 that was around that price about 18 months ago, Now that the FX series is out I think that the GeForce4 series will drop. Just a personal opinion, but the GeForce4-MX series is not in the same family as the GeForce4 is. It's was labelled as such but Nvidia took a beating among fans and critics because the tie in was misleading. It is actually more along the lines of a GF3, but the Geforce family had no MX series (unlike the GF2 mx I had for a couple of years). The chip engine is essentially that of a GF3 but still inferior in many ways. Yes, it has one or two features from the GF4 chip, but over all the GF3 series of "ti" cards is much superior in most ways. If you can get a cheap GF4 get one, I hear they rock. Otherwise a GF3 ti-200 or better ti-400 will do you nicely. If you do decide to get a GF4-MX card it is ok, It renders fine, then get the top of the line in the GF4 mx series. But, like I said, the new GeForce FX series should force the GF4's to drop and that is the sweet spot for the best price/performance IMHO. Likewise the GF3 should get much lower as well. Hold on, let me look at some prices, brb! Ok, a check of www.pricewatch.com shows a couple dozen hits (too say the least). One link at: http://www.buyxtremegear.com/abit42008x128a.html gives you an idea of what's possible (I might just upgrade). And just for comparison: http://www.gameve.com/store/gameve_viewitem.asp?idproduct=545 http://www.gameve.com/store/gameve_viewitem.asp?idproduct=544 http://www.gameve.com/store/gameve_viewitem.asp?idproduct=804 http://www.nexcomdirect.com/items.asp?CartId=13812818YZCG-ACCWARE-L81&Cc=VGA with this: http://www.nexcomdirect.com/itemdesc.asp?CartId=13812818YZCG-ACCWARE-L81&ic=VGAASU9280TD1&cc=&tpc= So, searching around a bit on pricewatch I found a veritable plethora of video cards. I usually try to find one close to me, and if I get a little suspicious then a check google for the company name and any thing on comsumer reports or the Better Business Beaureu. Of course this works best if your in the US. I don't know what to tell you if your overseas but, given the price comparisions and the indications about what's going for what on the market, you should be able to get a very nice card for between $120 to just over $150 (plus shipping - watch out for the exorbinant shipping prices some vendors pull - it's a scam to offset the sale prices). actually the gf4mx is basically a faster gf2mx with better anti-aliasing and anistropic filtering due to the addition of accuview (or whatever nvidia called it). hell.. the code name for it (nv17) shows that it wasn't even the same generation as the gf3 (nv20) or gf4 (nv25) that it claimed to be.. -- trey

I recently got a Ti4200 and it works well for what I do. Don't know about your game that you want to run under windows but I have Battlefield 1942 and it works great with it. Colors and 3D in linux look good too :) I got mine on-line from newegg.com. I think that mine was about $142 less S/H. -- Marshall "Nothing is impossible, we just do not have all the anwsers to make the impossible, possible."
