-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 SuSE9.0 ftp install, gnome 2.4 through synaptic Since upgrading to kde 3.1.95 and now kde 3.2 I haven't been able to add Gnome (and I assume other window managers) to the kdm login window selection dropdown. I tracked down /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc (the correct file as far as I can tell,( /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc seems to be unused)). After finding the file I did some editing but had no luck adding any sessiontypes, even though kdmrc(5) and the kde help system describe this option as being the correct one for adding different window managers. /opt/kde3/share/apps/kdm/sessions is fully populated with desktop files. I know that in kde 3.1.5 a link needed to be created between /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdmkdmrc but that has no effect on my problem. I ran genkdmconf as suggested in the readme and the resulting file was very educational but it still made no mention of sessiontypes. I also cannot get kdm to accept the "nopassword" option for my users, allowing them to login w/out having to type their passwords. At least I've got my nice login background back :-) Suggestions appreciated - -- dh -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAIHshBwgxlylUsJARAgAiAJ9mkI9snd09SgCSd2HjCgElAi7RugCfaQyL 8kwgXmhjboZHL8OcToxivDQ= =f/xh -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

No suggestions but I have the same problem; SUSE 9.0 Pro, KDE 3.2, Gnome just put back to 2.2.x from James' ULB-Gnome. The login session portion of KDE Control Center, System Admin, Login Manager is gone after KDE 3.1.95 via apt. I've checked the same files and don't see anything wrong. My backup kdmrc files don't look too different so I'll try one of those. Let us know if you find something. Stan

Just to add that I'm experiencing the same problem. Haven't been able to see Gnome-session in kdm since my upgrade to 3.1.95. I'm now using 3.2. I can see a host of other sessions including blackbox and IceWM, but no Gnome. Really odd. Surely someone has found a way around this. su to root and run ln -s /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-session /usr/X11R6/bin/gnome then restart kdm. I think that's all I had to do

Didn't work for me either. Renamed the /usr/X11R6/bin/gnome file and forced the soft link but didn't change anything. I did copy the /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc.SuSEconfig file to /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and that let suseplugger start working again... Honest. Only change I made at the time to see if I'd get gnome session back. suseplugger was crashing every time I logged in. Stan

What version is your config file? (grep ConfigVersion /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc)

Try

then
Woo Hoo! That did it. Now to reinstall ULB Gnome... Thanks Anders!
