[opensuse] Startup: a Start job is running Load Kernel Modules
I have a system that seems to be stuck waiting for $SUBJ to complete. I'm guessing this is loading of modules in /etc/modules-load.d/ etc., and I think it is module "ipmi_si" that is keeping it. The question is - why does the startup have to wait for this to complete? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (4.9°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It was indeed "ipmi_si" that failed to communication with the onboard BMC. Is there a way of telling systemd not to wait for this module to be loaded? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (5.6°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Nope, the kernel has to be fixed not to hang and give up trying instead. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well ... any reasons systemd-modules-load.service has TimeoutStartUSec=0? Is it not better to give up and continue? Yes, something may be missed, but at least it allows to investigate the problem. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, but it is the kernel that has to "return" from module loading.. if you google "ipmi_si hang" there are over 4600 results. some are relatively recent. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
