I'm trying to setup my Palm Pilot for Linux. I'm running SUSE 8.1, the Palm is on my USB hub. Looking at the pilot-link documentation, I have to have the pilot defined in /dev/pilot. I've been searching for how to do this, but am coming up blank. Apparently, there used to be documentation at http://www.orbits.com/Palm, but that site has been swallowed up by Orbitz. Can anyone point me at documentaion on configuring the device. I *THINK* I can take it from there. (If not, I'll be back, but I'm trying to research these things - not doing a great job, but I am trying) tia -- Satterwhite's Observation #2: In any situation in which theory conflicts with reality, reality wins every time.
My Palm Pilot is working fine on SuSE 8.1. Since mine is a USB devce and connection, all that was required was to define it as /dev/ttyUSB1, /dev/pilot is for serial connections. Harry On Sunday 16 March 2003 03:56 pm, Michael Satterwhite wrote:

I think that's a start, but There are 4 ttyUSB devices (4 port hub). The Pilot is on one of these, but I don't see anything in the links that would indicate if it's actually seen at all by the system. -- Satterwhite's Observation #2: In any situation in which theory conflicts with reality, reality wins every time.

Put your Palm in the cradle and press the sync button, then look at
dmesg it should mention two devices (one for backup and one for 'normal
use' I believe), the second one should be the one you need. (IIRC)

Here's where the newbie really shows his ignorance. First, when I put my palm in the cradle and press sync, nothing happens. I *DID* find the dmesg file by using locate. It's not a text file, however. How do you look at it? I'm sorry to be so trying, really! -- Satterwhite's Observation #2: In any situation in which theory conflicts with reality, reality wins every time.

No problem! That's how we all learn. "dmesg" is a command. Type "dmesg" and watch the log go by. -- John LeMay KC2KTH Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC | http://www.njmc.com | Phone 732-557-4848 Specializing in Microsoft and Unix based solutions
You will only "see" the device when it is attached (attempting to use it), it will then be visible if you look at /var/log/messages, look for ...:hub.c activity and ...:usbserial.c: ... By the way I am also using a 4 port hub Harry On Sunday 16 March 2003 05:26 pm, Michael Satterwhite wrote:
