RE: [SLE] Professional web development tools for Linux?
Maybe you're referring to WebSphere? I'm not sure if that's what he's looking for though.... Mike ----------------------------------------------------- Cleary_Mike@emc.com ----------------------------------------------------- Yesterday it worked. Today it is not working. Windows is like that. <snip> this is a good point, I agree. Also, doesn't IBM have a *nux version of their offering (name excapes me at the moment). It is supposed to be relatively low cost. -- Gary I generally avoid temptation unless I can't resist it. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Yah, that's what I was trying to think of. Haven't used it myself. Thanks Mike... -- Gary I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder.
Hmm... never heard of a websphere editor offering but I looked into it and there is indeed an editor for Linux. Check it out: http://www-3.ibm.com/software/awdtools/hpbuilder/linux/ Has anyone used this before? Thoughts? I'll look into this further myself as well... Thanks for the tip! You can check this one out: it's open source: http://phpeclipse.sourceforge.net which runs on top of http://www.elicpse.org It's not Dreamweaver, but at least it's Java so you can extend it. There are a lot of plugins for eclipse (which is the websphere open source cousin - both from IBM), just look on eclipse.org there is a contributing section there. Major asset is that eclipse will look and run the same both on linux and on M$, so if you have different OS for developers still they can come to the same line at the end. Bottom line (and sad line too) is that there is still no good WYSIWYG webeditor that can match at least FrontPage, if not Dreamweaver&Co. If you are a fan of handwriting and you have time, you have a lot of option in linux, ranging from VI to Anjuta or Bluefish or Quanta...but if you are doing this for a living and your boss is after you with tight deadlines and terms, truth is that you will become dependent on Dreamweaver... sad... Websphere is not free on Linux, 30 day trial only if I remember correctly, then it gets really spendy. I played with it for 30 days, didn't like it. I know there have been some PhP solutions thrown out there, but you might want to look at Zope as well (www.zope.org). It's a python solution, but you don't have to know python to use it (though it'll certainly help). All development can be done through the web. It has some really cool CMF features as well. Just a thought... Josh
