Many thanks. Indeed, it's there. However when I attempt to insert the module I get: abnormal:/home/computation # modprobe /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1938 FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory abnormal:/home/computation # modprobe /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1938.ko FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory Part of these messages make sense, even to me, becaise modules.dep is not where the systems seems to think it is, but rather at: /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop/modules.dep
Have you tried to change to that directory and run modprobe?
Is this a PCI sound card or are you using the motherboard sound? What's the output from lspci?
Thanks for your reply. It's a pci sound card.
Heree's the output of lspci (as root);

I was wondering if youhave any insights as to m the solution of my sound problemn? If I change to /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop/kernel/sound/pci and run modprobe snd-es1938.ko, I get: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory which makes sense, even to me, as there is no /lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default subdirectory. The modules.dep file is in /lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop on my computer. This is the most trouble that I've had with a linux distribution in the last 15 years. Maybe command: depmod can solve your problem. If not it will nice to see output of commands: uname -a ll /boot/ that might shed more light on reasons that modprobe is looking for 2.6.27.7-9-default modules (openSUSE 11.1) instead of 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop. -- Regards Rajko, openSUSE Wiki Team: http://en.opensuse.org/Wiki_Team People of openSUSE: http://en.opensuse.org/People_of_openSUSE/About -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
