[opensuse] SLED 10 SP1 Beta 6
Hi list, I've aquired SLED 10 SP1 Beta 6 from brainshare last week. I've installed it fine but i'm having troubles getting my ati radeon x1600 driver installed. I've followed all the steps located at http://en.opensuse.org/Howto/ATI_Driver without any luck.. When i run sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx the screen goes blank and i'm unable to do anything from there.. I've heard people having the same problems where they had to disable a few things on xorg.conf.. I've done that and its still happing. Can someone please help me debug this problem? what information do i need to find out? PS: it appears there are no errors in sax2.log, it appears it just freezes. This is a known issue with the ATI drivers. AMD is working on a fix. The bug is not open for the public as Beta6 is not really a public beta. Cheers, Magnus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Magnus. I replied a bit hastily there. I should have suggested looking at http://www.novell.com/beta/ and to check for existing bugs before posting one. I guess you don't publish any official information on closed betas, though :-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I would of thought that it was something with how sp1 is configured, or the software versions that it comes with.. would of thought Novell would want a bug logged considering they gave us all access to the beta at bs. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

A bug report DO exist for this issue! It's just that bug reports for non-public beta's is not open for everyone. I have no answers as to how Novell should inform everybody from BS about

Sounds like they already have one logged. I guess β is for βugs :-) Maybe there's an update repository for the beta? Does it work like that? Can one apply for newer closed betas on the basis of an existing one? Or is all this Top Secret? :-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No, it's not top secret... But we don't want all of the world to start logging bugs against commercial products as that would leave no time for developers to develop :-) So the proper channel is to log an incident with Novell Technical Support, who can then figure out if it's an existing problem or not and then take the appropriate action. I'm sure that when there is a solution, someone will post that to this list... :-) Cheers, Magnus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The fix is out there. The driver repo is http://www2.ati.com/suse/sle10sp1 The driver works very nicely for me in RC1, and should in beta 6 too -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You can't open it in a browser. You're supposed to add as a repository it in YaST's installation source manager -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

When i run sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx the screen goes blank and i'm unable to do anything from there.. it appears there are no errors in sax2.log, it appears it just freezes. You might check if there are any verbosity or debug options for sax2 ('man sax2') I've heard people having the same problems where they had to disable a few things on xorg.conf.. I've done that and its still happing. Which things? Can someone please help me debug this problem? what information do i need to find out? Have you tried to create your own /etc/X11/xorg.conf and start xdm? (you'll need another machine to log in and kill it) Have a look for (EE) entries in the most recent xorg log in /var/log/ How are you getting out of sax2? Do you have to reset or reboot at all? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
