generated a key with gnugpg i see 2 key one says pub and sub is sub the private key if not how do i know which on is my private key? i am making the assumption pub is my public key TIA

No. You created two keys when you ran "gpg --gen-key". One is used for signing, and the other is used for encrypting. You will not see your private key when you type "gpg --list-keys". This only shows public keys. Read man gpg for more info. -v -- Victor R.
