Kernel upgrade questions
Can I use a standard kernel on my SuSE 9.1 pro installation? Will I have any problems and what is the best way to do that? Thank you.

Yes.

Yes, with a vanilla kernel boot logging wouldn't work, you will need a patch called tiocgdev.
and what is the best way to do that?
Like compiling a normal SuSE kernel with one exception, instead of using: make cloneconfig you should copy the .config from the old kernel source, put it in the top level directory of the new one and do: make oldconfig Charles -- I did this 'cause Linux gives me a woody. It doesn't generate revenue. (Dave '-ddt->` Taylor, announcing DOOM for Linux)

Charles, I've been unable to find this patch. All references I've seen have been to the 2.4 series kernels. Maybe I'm just a little blind. Do you have a link for the 2.6 kernels. Thanks, John -- 20 years of schoolin' and they put ya on the day shift. Bob Dylan.

I'm running 9.1 with the 2.6.7 kernel and I'd never heard of that patch until Charles mentioned it. I don't see that I'm missing anything. Thanks Bruce - I'll give it a try and see. John -- 20 years of schoolin' and they put ya on the day shift. Bob Dylan.
It will work just fine -- just take out the splash and vga options in grub. On Wednesday 11 August 2004 19:15, John J. Foster wrote:
