[S.u.S.E. Linux] Notebook Question!!! Help
Ok, I am a linux newbie; and love Suse 5.2. I am going to buy a new Gateway laptop. So basically I am going to invest around 3k for the notebook. But I don't want to waste my money, if I can't run Linux. Will I be able to install Suse on the laptop, will it support the video card and other hardware. Well, one way is to see what equipment VA Research (www.varesearch.com) sells for their Linux configured laptop. The other is to check out the Linux Laptop page (link is on SuSE site, don't remember it). I have it on a NEC Versa 6200 MMX laptop working well. COREVIPER@aol.com wrote:

I have installed the demo version of 5.2 on my Gateway 2300 solo with the NeoMagic 128 chip. The also have a Infotel (DLINK OEM'd) NE2K compatible PCMCIA NIC. The installation process was smooth including the detection of the NIC and installation of the relevant modules. I have not configured the sound yet. As for a X server, Redhat has a binary only server (XBFNeomagic...) available at their FTP site. It is really nice. If you want X I would suggest, that you find out what graphics chip the GW2K laptops use (most likely they are still using the NeoMagic chip). Hi, I have a gateway 9100 solo with the trident cyber 9397 chipset and suse 5.2 went on without a hitch. Xwindows works in 1024x768 resolution. -- -------------------------------------------- Rick Knebel rknebel@csrlink.net <A HREF="http://rknebel.dyn.ml.org"><A HREF="http://rknebel.dyn.ml.org</A">http://rknebel.dyn.ml.org -------------------------------------------- - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
