Hi, I'm having a problem installing Virtualbox on Opensuse 15.1 with KDE Plasma Version 5.12.8 KDE Frameworks Ver 5.55.0 Qt Version 5.9.7 Kernel Version 5.6.0-rc7-1.g0801cd7-default I installed Virtualbox using Yast. When I try to start Virtualbox I get the following message: Failed to open a session for the virutal machine. Then, in a seperate popup window I get the following message: Kernel driver not installed (rc=1908) The VirtualBox LInux dernel driver is either not loaded or not set up correctly. Pleast try setting it up again by executing '/sbin/bvoxconfig' as root. When I run /sbin/vboxconfig as root, I get this message: Building kernel modules... Build of VirtualBox host kernel modules failed. Look at /var/log/virtualbox.log to find reasons In /var/log/virtualbox.log this message appears: === Building 'vboxdrv' module === make[1]: Entering directory '/usr/src/kernel- modules/virtualbox/src/vboxdrv' /usr/src/kernel-modules/virtualbox/src/vboxdrv/Makefile-header.gmk:193: *** Error: unable to find the headers of the Linux kernel to build against (KERN_DIR=/lib/modules/5.6.0-rc7-1.g0801cd7-default/build). Possibly the kernel source not installed? Fred ============ If the water cooler doesn't work, check to see if it is unplugged -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Fred ============
I installed the kernel source, as it wasn't installed. After installing the kernel source I rebooted, and then ran /sbin/vboxconfig. But I have the same results with the same messages, and still can't start a virtual machine. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
hi, i solved it by uninstalling all virtualbox packages with yast. and the followed the instructions on: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds Am 02.04.20 um 16:27 schrieb Mark Misulich:

nevertheless it is a kernel issue. or a suse package build issue latest builds from virtualbox seem to work. at least installer worked, and i could start virtualbox. didn't test starting a virtual machine. -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | Atenciosamente | Saludos Cordiales *DI Rainer Klier* DevOps, Research & Development -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I reverted to kernel 4.12.14-Lp151.28.44-default. The virtual machine starts now, so it definitely is a problem with the kernel. Thanks Mark -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Confirmed, Running Linux 5.6.2 on the Testbuilds (build 136804) Built testcase 5.2.39 along with virtualbox-ext-oracle-5 (same build) for Arch. Both Linux and Windows guests are running fine on Linux 5.6.2 host. -- David C. Thanks for checking this out. I was able to get the virtual machine to start finally when I used an older kernel. I tried to make two virtual machines, ReactOS and WinXP in order to get access to a service manual on CD that will only play in WinXP, and not in later Win versions. ReactOS will install as a virtual machine but won't play the CD, and WinXP won't install as a virtual machine. WinXP won't install on that computer by itself for the same reason, it seems the motherboard doesn't have the architecture to deal with WinXP's ACPI requirements so it won't install in either case. I've realized that I will have to keep a seperate, older computer going for WinXP for as long as I need access to the service manual. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
