RE: [opensuse] OpenSuse 10 RC1?
RC1 means it is unfinished. I would never run an RC1 on a system that needs to stay up. Either run 9.3 or wait or if your system is runnming now and does what you want it to do, stick with that.
9.3 is sux... It looks like 10RC or Super10 RC is better choice L:
I sort of agree. I bought 9.3 when it was released but it was a disapointment. I bought a new laptop last week and didn't even consider installing 9.3. I installed 10.0 RC1 and so far it works better than 9.3. I don't know if I'll have to reinstall once 10.0 stable gets released but as said before installing 9.3 wasn't even considered. 2005/9/21, Pal, Laszlo <laszlo.pal@eds.com>:

What was the disappointment? I've been running 9.3 on my laptop since it was release and I've been happy with it. that needs

I have been running every other release of suse since 6.4 and the quality, stability and language support for Swedish (my natural language) has improved ever since but the step from 9.2 to 9.3 broke that trend. It's not bad compared to others but compared to previous releases of SuSE it was a dissapointment. It felt like the hardware support compared to 9.2 was worse and some of the Yast modules had annoying bugs in them. I ran every release between 8 and 9.3 on the same laptop and the 9.2 release worked best for me. Now that I bought a new laptop I didn't want to go as far back as 9.2 and my experience with 9.3 wasn't so good so I gave 10.0-RC1 a shot. And so far all I can say is that SuSE is back on track. I know there is a lot of stuff to be translated to Swedish but that is such a small language so I won't complain but the hardware support and stability is far better than 9.3 2005/9/21, Magnus Boman <mboman@novell.com>:

Looks like we have different experiences regarding 9.3. I was quite happy with performance and hardware recognition between 9.2 and 9.3 Even though I'm Swedish myself, I would never install an OS (or any software on top of that OS) in Swedish myself so I haven't experienced some of your issues. The good thing is that we have bugzilla.novell.com to report these things so if you ever feel that SUSE Linux doesn't perform, doesn't translate or doesn't do what you want, please go there and file a bug report so that we can fix the issues. We can only fix issues we know about :) Cheers, Magnus

I would not install in Swedish either if it wasn't for the fact that if you want to get some end users that doesn't care if they run windows or linux as long as it works for them and they have a hard time even understanding some of the translated messages and tecnical terms they sometime are confronted with, then you will have to know what kind of language support that OS gives them. I still think SuSE 9.3 is a very good OS and I wouldn't buy any thing else but SuSE but if you doesn't mind some googeling and perhaps some trouble and doesn't have to have a 100% running system why not give 10.0-RC1 a shot and in the process maby help the SuSE community a bit. 2005/9/21, Magnus Boman <mboman@novell.com>:

I found 9.3 to be an improvement on 9.2, but not enough to be worth upgrading, only if you needed fresh install or to reinstall a system suffering from over-enthusiastic tweaking (guilty as charged!) It worked well on my Dell latitude C610, albeit screen blanking/backlight off is bust, that's for another thread.
