Hello Folks, I'm going to inherit a an IBM 42T. It has the "Power PC" silk-screen on it. Does anybody know or heard of anyone installing Linux on RS/6000 based hardware. Or is their bus just too proprietary for anybody to even try it. This box is old but it runs X with GLX on a giant card and a 20" monitor. I would hate to see this rare classic in the dumpster. I don't think I could afford a license to AIX. Hello BTM77. Try Yellow Dogs site at http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/ can give you some hints. Although not directly stating that the 42T is supported they does not say that isn't either. I don't have any personal experience with the 42T boxes (works most with 43P, F50, H70 etc), but if it is a PCI based machine there is some chance of making it run. If it is a MCA based machine, I would not hold my breath though. Nice bus but unfortunately propriatary and now completely kicked out of market. It would be a waste to dump that machine in any case. Ask (beg, bribe, etc ;-) your local IBM rep to see if they have a spare AIX for you, if you cannot get Linux to run. If the machine is old enough it might be that it actually has a license attached to it. But that is kind of a long shot. Good luck! heh found this printer in the dumpster. $lpr testfile works fine. $lpr testfile.ps does nothing. gs is installed but suse's /etc/printcap doesn't say anyhting about it. Can anyone help me- a web page is fine, I could not find a printing howto on linuxdoc.org.
