[opensuse] KDE 4.6 in KDE:Distro:Factory
As previously announced, with the start of the KDE 4.6 release cycle, we have shifted the codebase in KDE:Distro:Factory in the openSUSE Build Service to KDE 4.6beta1. That means if you want to continue to use KDE 4.5 and have not yet done so, you have a matter of hours to switch your repositories to KDE:Release:45, where stable KDE 4.5 releases will be provided for the medium term. Otherwise you're joining us for the 4.6 stabilisation ride! Cool, so that annoying console crash fix is now upstream ..it has managed to drive me crazy enough to patch the packages myself ;-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

So how bumpy will the ride be? I have one machine I might like to ride along on, as long is there is nothing debilitating in there.... -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Just to see that I am following the always interesting OBS journey with KDE: KDE:Release:45 has contained 4.5 for a while. Up until this step, KDE:Distro:Factory also contained 4.5. After this step, KDE:Distro:Factory will be 4.6beta1 So far so good. My question is: after KDE:Release:45 was made, and before this change, what was the relationship between KDE:Release:45 and KDE:Distro:Factory? I ask because I use KDE:Release:45, and there have been updates. I couldn't guess that work is done in KDE:Release:45 and KDE:Distro:Factory in parallel. I have suspected that work happens in KDE:Distro:Factory, and KDE:Release:45 are occasional 'stable' snapshots of this. as far as i know, KDE factory has been using qt 4.7, while release:/45 has been (and still is) using qt 4.6 -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Exactly. KDE:Release:45 was a stable snapshot of KDE:Distro:Factory until KDE 4.6 Beta 1 was uploaded to KDF, so KR45 is now an independent repository. Furthermore, KR45 uses Qt 4.6.3 instead of 4.7.1. Tomorrow KR45 will have KDE 4.5.4 ;-) Greetings, -- Javier Llorente

I'm happily running 4.5.80 (a.k.a. 4.6 beta 1) in openSUSE 11.4 M4. So far all looks goog. Early days tho. -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm actually seeing significant problems with 4.6 B1, especially with regard to Dolphin and Kong. I've filed some bug reports, and am kind of in wait mode right now. Start Dolphin. Close Dolphin. It won't start again. Works fine for root but nobody else. Start Kong, Shutdown Kong. Start Kong again, now two kongs running. Rinse, repeat and eventually fill memory with kong instances that refuse to shut down. I've never gotten Kmail to actually send mail via Gmail either. It horks up the account name for smtp as a minimum, but even fixing that doesn't help. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm having issues here too... Start Dolphin and it can take up to 30 seconds to actually show the window... works as expected when open... exit and it crashes (shows the usual KDE crash handler). I can start it again without issues. Also once one Dolphin is open, I can open other Dolphin windows and they open quickly and close quickly and no crash... it's only the "first" one that is borked. Still poking the bug reports for similar. C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

My dolphin will show the window fairly rapidly, but I can never exit that window. If I do, I can't start dolphin again. So I have to remember to open dolphin and minimize it and leave it there. I can open other dolphin windows as long as I don't close the first one. If I open a shell and launch dolphin from the shell I get this: ------------------------ jsa@poulsbo:~> dolphin kde(13624): Communication problem with "dolphin" , it probably crashed. Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." " ----------------------- Also, all of my notification sounds are heard twice. Login, shutdown, beeps, new mail, all of them. Annoying. Can't figure out where that might be set. -- Explain again the part about rm -rf / -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Googling found that if the file /etc/security/fileshare.conf had permissions of -rw------- Dolphin would only open the first time. All the other permissions in that directory were -rw-r--r-- so I also set that for fileshare.conf and now dolphin will both start up and shut down properly. (This also explains why it worked for root). I don't know if this is the correct solution or a dangerous hack, but it works. NOTE: The date on /etc/security/fileshare.conf was WAY BACK in 2009, so perhaps this was missed in the Beta 1 setup? -- Explain again the part about rm -rf / -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

My Dolphin starts/stops as expected. However, I have no file called /etc/security/fileshare.conf. The system is 11.4, installed from RC2, and updated twice to the current RC. rpm does not know about the file. So it was never installed.
