[opensuse] openSUSE 11.0 and vmware modules
Hi, I installed openSUSE 11.0 with all the development tools. Also, I installed Vmware Workstation 6.0.4 that worked fine on openSUSE 10.3 but when I run vmware-config.pl and compile vmware modules for my kernel I get the following message: Your kernel was built with "gcc" version "4.3.1", while you are trying to use "/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.3". This configuration is not recommended and VMware Workstation may crash if you'll continue. Please try to use exactly same compiler as one used for building your kernel. Do you want to go with compiler "/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.3" anyway? [no] I looked at the repositories and there is no version 4.3.1 of gcc, so I can't compile the modules and run vmware (I get an error later). I am using kernel-default, but same happens with kernel-pae. Anynone has the same problem? How can I solve it? This has happened in the past and Vmware ran in-spite of the alleged problem. So it might run now as well. Perhaps if you told us what the error that you got later was more help would be forthcoming. I solved it. More information about how to compile Vmware modules with Kernel 2.6.25 can be found here: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/146926?tstart=0&start=0 http://blog.creonfx.com/linux/how-to-install-vmware-player-workstation-on-26... http://blog.creonfx.com/linux/how-to-install-vmware-player-workstation-on-26... Many thanks Raul, I just now ran into the very same issue during a test install of OpenSuSE11 on my test VM. I shall try the suggestions mentioned in your links. -- --Moby They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -- Benjamin Franklin -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Has anyone tried the above with vmware server yet? How about with the 64-bit kernel? FYI: this is the sort of thing that would be nice to have on the opensuse wiki. I looked, but the vmware docs I saw were way old. I finally got back to getting VMware server running. After upgrading to 1.0.6 it worked as advertised with OpenSUSE 11.0 On Tue, Jul 8, 2008 at 7:05 PM, Greg Freemyer <greg.freemyer@gmail.com> wrote:
