[opensuse] Repository for multimedia in OpenSuSE 11.0
What repositor(y)(ies) should I add to YaST to have wincodecs et al. available? How do I add it/them? TIA Lisi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

packman and if you need dvd css, videolan as well for libdvdcss . They should be under community repositories either a separate icon in yast control center in 10.3 or less or a part of repository manager under add repositories. You need libxine1 and w32codec-all and possibly a few more such as libxine1-codecs and k3b-codecs for k3b functions. Thanks! I got the repositories. And I installed the packages you mention. But I still can't play DVDs. Kaffeine says that the version of Xine it uses does not have a full set of codecs. It then refers me to a webpage that gives the same advice as you do, Dave. I am now stuck. I seem only to be able to get anything out of YaST if I know the correct name of the package. And all the packages have slightly different names from what I am used to. :-( All further help very gratefully received. Replace the suse version of kaffeine with the packman version.
Thanks, Dave :-) Your help has been brilliant. There is a DVD playing now!! Mind you, I am not sure why what I did worked - but it did, and that is all that matters. I did not appear to myself to have uninstalled anything - but SuSE obviously thought that I had!! Oh dear :-( I spoke too soon. The movement has become too slow and the music has disappeared. Still, at least it plays. We are testing with another DVD, in case it is the DVD that's faulty. Thanks very much for having got me this far. Be warned! I'll come back if we still have problems! Two other DVDs have played perfectly. On the balance of probability it looks as though the first one was a faulty DVD. Thanks again, Dave :-) Lisi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I struggled off and on without success with mplayer and dvds for a long time. I finally downloaded videolan, and it Just Worked. All I had to do was download dvdvcss, follow the simple instructions, and start videolan.
