nope Martin, just no go...I used Yast to update all the files in the a1 directory and Yast squawked real bad that grep and sed were not to be found.
Apparently yast needs sed and awk to install things :-)
I now have the problem when I try to re-initialize my
firewall script I get the following error message:
Note: /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.2.18/modules.dep

Sed and grep are nowhere to be found still,
Does rpm -qpl show grep and sed to be part of that rpm?

that fails then add --force Excuse my ignorance..but I have only been playing with Linux for a year and a half..so please excuse this next question. What package do I do the command rpm -ihv to? I have aaa_base-2001.3.5-1 installed, or so it says when I did the rpm -ihv off the CD. This came from YAST using FTP.

Which rpm package? aaa_base?

These commands return : file base-2001.1.15-0: No such file or directory I also looked for any instance of base-2001* and turned up nothing..would this be a problem?
