[opensuse] Modem Question
Dell Inspiron 8500 w/Suse 10.1 has builtin modem, but does not seem to connect. How can I determine the /dev/XXX for this modem? Tried /dev/modem, but kppp cannot find it. I have checked pci devices, etc, but not found anything. Believe it was ttyS0 before, but am not sure. This is especially difficult since the computer is in Albuquerque and I am in Taiwan. Dell Inspiron come with connexant modems. Connexant is notorious for making proprietary modems which only work for Windows. On 1/1/07, Art Fore <art.fore@comcast.net> wrote:

Check out this site for help. It's the best place to start. Gustav http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

My Dell Inspiron 9400 has a Conexant built-in modem. I had to use a driver from www.linuxant.com to get it to be recognized. It's free for speeds up to 14,400 but you have to pay $20 for a license to use it at higher speeds. Also - I'm in Albuquerque - fee free to email me privately if there's something I might be able to do to help.
