Any suggestions?
Read "Choosing Your Mozilla" on http://www.mozilla.org/unix/dpi.html
The Mozilla build you'll be installing to replace the 1.7.3 you downloaded is in http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.7.5/contrib... but there is no installer version. Simply untar the plain tar.gz version to your choice of location, then if you want, create whatever desktop and/or menu shortcut you like to open it.
Felix, Thank you for your information and tip that really clarified and helped me. I downloaded and installed the right xft labeled Mozilla 1.7.5, and then Mozilla rendered the font nice again as expected. Another question is if the Xserver also influences the quality of the xft font rendering, as it can vary between different Linux distros and releases, even if they inlcude the same fonts? Terje J. Always glad to help out a Norwegian when I can. :-)

xft/fontconfig seem to be going through rapid development. I wouldn't expect high similarity except among distros released at the same time, something that hasn't been happening much lately. Sometimes the "same" fonts aren't really the same. The easiest solution for making comparisons is the mswbfnts package, easily installed in any recent distro. -- "The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God." 1 Corinthians 1:18 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg.
