2 ips on 1 eth interface?
How does one go about assigning 2 ips to 1 NIC in 8.1? example: starfighter 204.119.69.30 and 192.168.7.30 I need both of these ips accessed through eth0. I've hunted around at suse.com in the sdb but I've found nothing specific. Thanks. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. That won't work anymore in SuSE since the ip, not ifconfig and route, is used to set the interfaces. I've been told that the named aliases will go away completely sometime around 2.6. -- -ckm

Just add the second set of info to /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0. For example, BOOTPROTO='static' IPADDR='204.119.69.30' IPADDR1='192.168.7.30' NETMASK='255.255.255.0' NETMASK1='255.255.224.0' BROADCAST=204.119.69.255' : : You get the idea. You'll need to use ip to see the full info about the interfaces. ifconfig and the old style named aliases (e.g., eth0:1) are deprecated now. -- -ckm

It finally dawned on me to just cp ifcfg-eth0 to ifcfg-eth0:1 and edit it accordingly. It's working fine. It's not much different then on a Solaris box I was brainfarting today. All is well.
