Hi all, With SuSE 8, I have recently added OpenOffice, Kmymoney2, and a couple of other KDE apps. How do I get the Icons for these into the Menu to launch the apps. Right now I ust alt f2, but I would rather have them in the menu than on the desk top. I have tried KmenuEdit with no success. Thanks Gord
if you are kmenuedit you must make sure to add your new programs to a suitable folder within the suse folder. When I installed openoffice it added a menu group (openoffice.org) at the top of the tree in kmenuedit. I simply copied it to the suse folder/office and now it appears in my start menu. If your program did not install anywhere in the menu tree then just add it to the suse folder somewhere. I usually locate the binary by typing 'whereis gkrellm" etc so that I know what to call up. I also use Kpackage to see what the program installed as the main program etc. On my machine I would make a kmenuedit entry with the command "/opt/OpenOffice.org1.0/program/soffice" then choose an icon of my choice. The easiest way is to drag and drop and LINK the /opt/OpenOffice.org1.0/program/soffice file to the desktop, but I prefer it to be in the SuSE menu system. Gord Berta wrote:

Hi, My firewall is configured and I thought it was starting on boot. I went to http://grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1ck2l2 (Shields Up) and asked it to probe my machine and it was wide open. Went into Yast2 and had a look; it thought firewall was running. I clicked on Reconfigure and accepted all the settings I had already had in there, hit Reconfigure, and then the probes showed I was protected. How can I make sure it loads at boot? How can I be sure it is running? Thanks in advance, Nick
I determine whether ir is up by two methods: Clicking on YaST - Firewall gives the following dialog (in the left hand panel area). It seems like you already have a SuSE Firewall2 is running Clicking on my YaST DSL Configuratiion (since I have a DSL connection) I notice that the Activate Firewall button is grayed out. Have you tried this check box? Nick Selby wrote:

I am not sure which version of SuSE you are using, but if it is 7.x (I don't know about 8.0), you can do the following: /sbin/init.d/firewall status (I forget if it is 'firewal' or 'firewall', but I think it's with 2 l's) and that should tell you its present state. you can also do: 'stop', 'start', and 'restart' in place of 'status' hope that helps some. -Jeric : -----Original Message----- : From: Nick Selby [mailto:php@nickselby.com] : Sent: Wednesday, July 10, 2002 2:00 AM : To: suse-linux-e@suse.com : Subject: [SLE] Firewall Not Starting On Book : : : Hi, : My firewall is configured and I thought it was starting on boot. : I went to : http://grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1ck2l2 (Shields Up) and asked it to probe my : machine and it was wide open.
