[SLE] Mail proxy recommendation?
Hi, Does anyone have a recommendation for a firewall mail proxy(smtp & pop3)? I tried the smtpd rpm from the sec1 selection and was not able to get it to work. The daemon would start and then exit with error 71. Also, smtpd requires sendmail anyway. I thought there would be a simpler solution than sendmail or postfix. I've tried two other packages. Pop3dwg won't compile, it complains about not being able to size a struct defined in time.h. The aproxy program looked good(it's in perl) but it won't write out a log file and won't accept any connections(tested with firewall disabled). I do have squid2 working for http so all the network host names, etc. are correct. cott sworley@houston.rr.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

What is the problem then? What I mean: What is easier and simpler to setup than a postfix config? Koos Pol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- S.C. I'm just new to setting up a unix mail system, always used clients, xfmail, netscape, etc. I did look through the FAQ at postfix.org and they have an example for a firewall config. I'll have to try it. I just don't want to set it up and then lose all my mail. I've had enough of losing mail using M$ Outrage at work. Do you know if the POP3 & SMTP protocols send the username/password as plain text? I hope they don't since the it's the same as the roadrunner login. cott sworley@houston.rr.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I am familiar with the feeling...

Yes, they do. Alas. Koos Pol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- S.C. Pol T: +31 20 3116122 Systems Administrator F: +31 20 3116200 Compuware Europe B.V. I've sat for quite some time, watching sniffit's output on my Road Runner- connected router/firewall. I never see any traffic from any of the other 1000+ hosts on my supernetted ISP connection. It would appear the Motorola CyberSurfer modems act like switches, which menas your password is not open to sniffing like it would be on a shared medium. -- George Toft http://www.georgetoft.com "Windows [2000] introduces the Command Line Interface.
