Hi list, I've gotten a positive response from the Belnet ftp maintainer! Translated: "Thanks for informing us of the upcoming release of openSUSE, which will surely be in great demand by our users. We will take every step necessary to provide a fast mirror of openSUSE to our users as soon as possible." Now isn't that good news? Eberhard, I gave him your address, so I suppose he will be in touch to see how the Belnet mirror can get added to the openSUSE infrastructure. Best, Lode (still stuck on Wintendo at work unfortunately... new laptop due to arrive 'soon')

OK. I'll guide him to ftp4 to speed up his initial run. Cheers -e -- Eberhard Moenkeberg (emoenke@gwdg.de, em@kki.org)

More good news: ibiblio is going to be a mirror in the near future as well, *and* I'm also adding the torrents to the new ibiblio torrents server. This means that in the very near future ibiblio will be seeding the torrents, hopefully speeding up downloads for everyone. Best, Lode

Great news, but still almost empty. Pascal, please tell the admin he may use rsync://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS-beta4/inst-source/ rsync://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS-beta4/inst-source-java and - different server - rsync://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS-beta4/iso/ to speed up completion. ftp4 is almost idle (below 10 MByte/sec), and ftp has the i386 and x86_64 ISOs almost every time directly from buffercache. Xes, I am ripe for going to bed, but a) the belnet.be maintainer did not try to contact me (Roman, reading here?) b) ftp4 still is able to saturate every DSL line (I really wonder - where are the users tonight?) b) is a hint not (only) for the belnet.be maintainer, you (readers which are not yet complete) understand? ;->>
..... and have a great weekend!
Thanks. I guess I will, regardless of the weather. Just watching my machines, everything running well (but some things slow). ;-)) Cheers -e -- Eberhard Moenkeberg (emoenke@gwdg.de, em@kki.org)

Sorry, must read "any" instead of "every". At least if the DSL people are several hundreds... Cheers -e -- Eberhard Moenkeberg (emoenke@gwdg.de, em@kki.org)

Hi, I just sent ftpmaint at belnet.be a mail with these paths. Hopefully the Belnet mirror is ready by the time RC1 is released (this friday if I remember correctly?). Cheers, Lode

They look ready: ftp://ftp.belnet.be/mirrors/ftp.opensuse.org/ No iso structure yet, so I asume they are updating as we speek. I am not sure how often they run rsync on a dayly basis. -- houghi http://www.opensuse.org/index.php/Making_a_DVD_from_CDs
