You didn't mention the X version you are using (3.3.6?). Did you check the support database to find out if your card is supported. http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/cg_ragechips.html Also there is a bios setting to look at http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/cg_rage128crash.html Finally, make sure you are using the rage 128 driver (sorry, I don't know the proper name off the top of my head). There are two types of "all in wonder" cards, the new one is based on the rage 128 chip and the older one is mach64 based. IIRC, if you select "ati all in wonder" that will try and use the mach64 driver which would be wrong. You can either select the entry that is most similiar (any with the rage 128 chipset) or hand edit XF86Config to point to the proper driver. Good luck, Tim

Especially if it's the latest All-in-Wonder, I would check this angle. I recently bought an ATI Rage Pro, and it would not work under 3.x.x. However, it works great in 4.0. The ATI cards can be confusing because sometimes they have the same or similar names but use different chips. *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 7.0 Professional KMail 1.0.29.2 Bryan S. Frommy understanding there is a r128 and the m3/4 for notebooks which also use a version of the r128 drivers, since youve got 32meg i wonder if someone has put the m4 on a card. If so you need to look at using xfree 4.0.2 and a kernal that has ati support.

Neither of which are SuSE's fault. They don't release packages or kernals untill they are sure that their default application suite work ok. This also means that when we play we know that a problem is from what were doing, not from the source system, unlike a couple of other versions out there. csijon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alex Garcia" <acad@accefyn.org.co> To: <bryantyson@earthlink.net> Cc: <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Saturday, December 23, 2000 4:58 PM Subject: Re: [SLE] ati <p>> I have an ati all in wonder pro, it has 32 megs, and it dows not work, at least the

That makes it a Rage Pro chip right? I'm not sure it's even supported. I'm not even sure it will be supported. The new Xfree4.02 lists Radeon support but doesn't mention the pro chip. ATI is currently out sourcing the writing of drivers for it's cards. Thats good in one way but it means if they skip a card then it's worse. The orginal Rage 128 had it's driver written by SuSE but since then ATI has taken things over. Nick

I have just got my ati All-In-Wonder 128 Pro AGP with 32 megs to work. It uses the rage chip. I have version 7 and i had to install the xfree 4.02 version to get it to work. What i would like to know is why can a company like XIG make a set of drivers that work right away. Just 2 files to install and it worked fine the first time.

Hello I have an ATI AIW 128 pro AGP, 32 megs, with the Rage Pro chip, SuSE 7.0 had no problems setting it up for use. I did run across some minor trouble with Sax2 though. It would not allow the card to work properly for some unknown reason, to me. To get around this problem i used Sax1 to set the resolutions as I wished and saved them. Then I relaunched Sax2 and loaded the prior information for the card then when i ran into the problems with the setup of the card i shut Sax2 down. I do not have any problems with the ATI card otherwise. It works beautifully. On Wednesday 03 January 2001 16:48, you wrote:

I never said whether you have XFree 3.3.6 (SuSE 6.4), or if you upgraded to 4.0x. This is for 3.3.6. The ATI All-In-Wonder Pro 128 uses the Rage 128 chip, the same one that is in my Xpert2000 (See www.ati.com/na/pages/products/pc/xpert2000_pro/index.html and www.ati.com/na/pages/products/pc/aiw_128_pro/index.html). The driver is therefore XFCom_Rage128. If running XFree86 <4.0, the driver is contained in the xrage.rpm file at ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/X/XFCom/xrage/xrage.rpm. XFCom_Rage128 is placed in /usr/X11R6/bin/. Rename /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA anything else. As root, mv /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA.backup. Create a symbolic link to XFCom_Rage128: ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/XFCom_Rage128 XF86_SVGA. Logout. Restart X server. Log back in and the proper Xserver is up and running. There is no need to throw rocks at SuSE or ATI. This card (at least the Rage 128 chip) works beautifully with linux. With this driver it is fully supported to Millions of colors (24bpp or 32bpp) up to 1600x1200 resolution, especially with 32 MB. <p>Ed Harrison SuSE 6.4, Kernel 2.2.17, IBM JDK 1.1.8 (20000713) or Warp 4, FP12 or Windows98 (running in vmware 2.0.3 for fun) PolarBarMailer 1.1.19
