[opensuse] Libre Offfice wopn't open documents.
Hello SuSE people, Running 11.3 with KDE3.5.10 Did an upgrade of 11.3 last night and Open Office was uninstalled and Libre Office installed in it's place. It ooens up and will accept input but will not open any existing documents. If I go to File > Open I do not get a list of any existing documents nor any in the Recent Documents. If I then close it, it will not open a second time. I must log out and then back in again. Then, if I go to a document and right click on it then choose Open with Libre Office nothing happens. Libre Office does not open. But, if I have logged out and then back in again, when I go to a document and right click it and choose Open with Libre Offfice writer, it then opens a dialog about recovering the document. Then I tell it to recover the document and it opens that document. After that, and after logging out and back in again, that document will whow up in the Recent Documents list and can be opened from within Libre Office. Clear as mud, right? Links maybe? Hope somebody can point me in the right direction here. The handling and editing of documents is an important part of my use. Search the list,
[opensuse] LibreOffice 3.3.1 in 11.4
Thanks Carlos but found nothing on the lists except bugs and slow opening. And John, one lock file in my .libreoffice directory. Removed it - no change. So I said to myself, the heck with this. Just uninstall Libre Office and go back to Open Office. Told zypper remove Libre Office and zypper said it wasn;t installed. Huh ????. Went and looked in Yast. Nope not there. Asked rpm. Nope not installed. Then I asked the same thing for Open Office. Nope, not there either. So then I told zypper to in openoffice. Nope not avaiable. ThenI told zypper to in libreoffice. Told me it was already installed. (guess zypper can;t make up it's mind) So I told zypper in --force. Reinstalled it. Tried to use it. Same problem. No documents seen. Close it, try to open it again. Won't open. Why must they do this with upgrades. Just leave it alone unless I want to. I am really screwed here. This is my most important app. Bob S -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

rpm -qa | grep -i office will tell you what you have installed. Some zypper functions are case sensitive. I would check that list to see if you have something from the other suite. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. No, it's not. I can;t open a document from within the app because there are none listed. If you click on "Open" from the dropdown list nothing happens, Neither are there any Recent Documents when clicked on. Now, in addition, if I close Libre Office (after not being able to do anything) it will not open again. I must completely restart my session to get it back What may look similar to you is, if I go to a document directly, right click on it. and choose "Open with Libre Office Writer" it comes up with the request to repair, I tell it OK but in my case the document opens OK with no error messages. Sometimes the document opens right up without a repair message.. But then after I close it I cannot open Libre Office again unless I close and reopen my session, The only lock file I can find is in my .libreoffice/3-suse directory. After deleting that lock file it doesn't help.

Well, I have seen many reports about libreoffice with several symtoms, including those. Sometimes they write here, sometimes in the forum.

Mmm... then add the stable libreoffice repo, and update to a newer version, if it exists. I don't know if the old version of openoffice is still available, perhaps in the oss repo. Don't know if there is such a thing as a stable Libre Office repo. I am presently trying to join the Libre Office mailing list.
Did you try with a new user?
No, because I would have to populate the new user Documents directory to test it. Maybe I will have to do that though. I tried it with another user though and the symptoms are the same.

I'm sure there is, but I can't find it because <http://download.opensuse.org/> is down again :-( [...] Yep, there is. http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/LibreOffice:/Stable/ [...] Carries version " libreoffice-base-3.3.2.2-1.1.x86_64.rpm"

A file or two would be enough, not that difficult :-) - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. I suspect there is a lock file left lying around in your document directory. Turn on the option to show hidden files. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Bob, I have been bitten by the opposite. Documents modified in LibreOffice will no longer open in OpenOffice. This blows my mind. If I have some boxes with OO and some with LO, I have fits with documents modified in LO not opening again in OO. I can go to LO and open the same document fine, but opening them in OO is impossible. -- David C. David, Don't know what to tell you. How many boxes do you have? Why not change them all to LO? I am not being a "smart a??" or anything here, but why do you need LO and OO both? When I did the upgrade OO was un-installed and LO was installed. LO does everything that OO used to do. Easy for me to talk. I use only the one box. Stop and think about that a little longer. Documents that can not be opened by other people are useless. -- bkw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
