[opensuse] Fonts Look strange on openSUSE 10.3
Hello everyone!
I wanted to ask this question real quick:
My fonts on openSUSE 10.3 (out of the box) look very strange and ugly
compared to my fonts out of the box on 10.2. I have no idea why, and I
really can't stand them. I'm using 10.2 right now, and will until I can
fix this problem.
Here are links to Flickr photos of each desktop, and the Font Settings
windows:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1003/1478698989_1dbde9d834_o.png That is

If you guys need any more info from me, I'll be more than happy to share
it.

I've looked at both repeatedly and I just don't see what is wrong with
the 10.3 compared to the 10.2.

I've tried the link you've given. It has worked fine. My fonts are now

:) No, you're not weird. I've heard the same from many people. I think maybe it's something with my system, since some people complained back in Dec. when 10.2 came out that it's fonts were horrible, but on my computer they were great. I still can;t work with 10.3 since I have to work at my PC for extended lengths, those fonts give me a headache. On Tue, 2007-10-09 at 10:30 -0600, Donald D Henson wrote:

After I installed 10.3, I noticed that my fonts were ugly on a VAIO laptop (1280x800). I also noticed that the physical size of the display (in mm) was set wrong. After correcting this in xorg.conf, the fonts looked much better. I then did the suggested change with freetype2. I did not see very much improvement. Some, but nothing compared to what I got with a proper display size configuration. Silly intel... I have used this with the stock and proprietary Nvidia drivers. They seem to honor it. You can see in the bug the assignee suggested to put it in Xsetup, but as a workaround for the Intel's driver's ignorance. It is not progress to find a new driver makes us do things manually that used to be done automatically. A n00b installing for the first time is unlikely to be pleased, much less know what manual intervention he needs to do. -- "The basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul.
