[opensuse] thunderbird - The RETR command did not succeed. (RECV: -ERR no such message.)
All, After the trip to Co., thunderbird (24.2.0) now refuses to download my pop mail -- which I presume is due to me accessing the same pop3 mailbox via the ISP webmail interface while in Co. Thunderbird could retrieve pop3 fine while in Colorado, but could not send due to accessing via a foreign/remote IP (not on my suddenlink.com network) So I used the suddenlink webmail interface to send mail while away. This seems to have done something that now prevent thunderbird from being able to retrieve messages from my account now that I have returned home. The error given by thunderbird is: The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop.suddenlinkmail.com responded: no such message. So what is going on here? Is there some message index that is messed that is preventing tbird from downloading from this pop host? It can obviously see all messages, but then gives -ERR no such message? Can I delete some file and have tbird rebuild it's index?
I can also download all messages from my iphone fine. I can then tell thunderbird to attempt to download again and it downloads the first 6 then throws the error, then downloads the remaining 134 new messages (it wouldn't do that before I accessed the mail with the iphone). So at least I can get this thread. There are 17 new messages on this pop account that tbird refuses to retrieve and throws this exact same error on. The logs look fine. The only anomalous indication in the log is the occasional: -1028991200[7f84c0250260]: RECV: 2785 7cba7f0a-ac67-11e3-a362-fe5117001099 -1028991200[7f84c0250260]: POP3: Entering state: 12 -1028991200[7f84c0250260]: RECV: 2786 eb1d85be-ac67-11e3-a476-17e30e5994a3 -1028991200[7f84c0250260]: POP3: Entering state: 12 -1028991200[7f84c0250260]: Entering NET_ProcessPop3 1448 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ -1028991200[7f84c0250260]: POP3: Entering state: 12 -1028991200[7f84c0250260]: RECV: 2787 1b4f4420-ac68-11e3-896a-8eb2a1a29b8f -1028991200[7f84c0250260]: POP3: Entering state: 12 -1028991200[7f84c0250260]: RECV: 2788 d24c807a-ac68-11e3-b1d6-049e9774ee49 I don't know if that is related or not. Does anybody know why tbird would choke like this on a few new messages? Originally IIRC it errored on the 3rd new message, then the 6th (after 3 new arrived), now it is erroring on the 17th (143 new successfully downloaded, 17 not downloaded for some reason) How to fix? -- David C. Grr.. This turned out to be an obscure problem on my ISP's end. After multiple calls to them, they finally determined the issue was on their end. Sorry for the noise. -- David C.
