Im trying to get Dvdrip working under Suse 9.3 but to no avail. It hangs when ripping the dvd. It makes no matter what dvd I try it always hangs the machine. I thought it may have had something to do with hal "the auto mounter thingy" so I stopped it by typing "rchal stop" and then try to rip the dvd. When i have hal disabled it rips further that with it enabled but still hangs at about 20% or so. With hal enabled it only get to about 10% or so. Btw I believe libdvdread is used to rip the dvd and the ver i have installed is libdvdread-0.9.4-2.pm.1 I have tried using vobcopy to rip but it hangs as well. :( Has anyone got dvdrip to work successfully under 9.3 btw using the same hardware and 9.2 I had no problems at all. Cheers, Glenn

Sounds like a hardware issue, make sure dma is enabled for all you devices. I also use DVDRIP and experience no issues. -- Chadley Wilson Redhat Certified Technician Cert Number: 603004708291270 Pinnacle Micro Manufacturers of Proline Computers ==================================== Exercise freedom, Use LINUX =====================================

I have it running on my shuttle box with 9.3 still playing with it -- Hans hanskrueger@adelphia.net

Hmm strange. Well I will put 9.2 back on and see if it works like it did before with it. I'll try 9.2 get it working on there and then upgrade to 9.3 :) Cant hurt. Cheers, Glenn

Yes, but it makes no difference.
Just to exclude HW problem, can you make a copy image of the dvd? dd if=/dev/dvd of=mydvd.iso If this works, can you paste a copy of the log file? Sunny

Sunny Well I went back to 9.2 and Dvdrip works perfectly so I guess from that it has to be software issue.
I have upgraded my Kde to 3.4 so I can still use some of the nice things that Suse 9.3 had ie amarok. So for the moment I will stick with 9.2. When I get some more time I will create a seperate partition on the drive and "play" with 9.3 to see why "any" dvdripping software wont work. btw good idea to try dd. I'll try that as well. Thanks for the input. Cheers , Glenn

Btw, there is a known bug with transcode threads and kernels 2.6.x. I had it on 9.1 and 9.2, but not aways. Try this to see if it works with 9.3: http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/doc/faq.cipp#faq19 The hint is for Fedora, but it is kernel related and solved my problem as well. Cheers Sunny
