RE: [SLE] problem to setup a gateway
Hi Jon, Thanks for your quick answer. I cannot try it, as I'm in the office right now but I would have a couple of questions: 1. Is there any reason why I would need to change the addresses of the network cards? The addresses I picked up were the ones sugested in the SuSE support db at: http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/masq80.html. Sorry if this question sounds stupid but I'm no network expert ;-> 2. Is there any reason to use shorewall instead of SuSE firewall? I found it very handy to configure via YaST and it seems to cover my (basic) needs (all my ports are stealthed when scanning them). Thanks in advance anc cheers, Xavier _____________________________________________________________________ Envie de discuter en "live" avec vos amis ? The only way to know why it does not work is if you can send the detailed information for each machine netstat -nr Once we know the routing then we can help

I would say stick with SuSEFirewall2 for the very reason you have mentioned configurable via YaST2. -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer http://dinamizm.ath.cx

Xavier, You answered the question yourself when you wrote "I'm no network expert." The Shorewall docs can make you comfortable with network things and it is much easier for the novice to setup, if you follow the QuickStart Guide. Settng up a network with Shorewall is closer to using plain english for getting things done. Yes, it has a number of files to edit but the One, Two , and Three Interface examples make it an almost no-brainer. Add to that the outstanding help you get from its author, Tom Eastep, makes it an even easier decision. Of course, this is my opinion and like they say, everyone has one. Good luck, Richard
