Most complete ARCHIVES.gz file online?
What is the most complete ARCHIVES.gz file online? I use pin a lot and like to also have all the programs included that are online. The one that comes with the CDs does not hold all the files. Use ftp://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/10.0-i386/Contents-i386.gz That file can be queried using apt-file. It has all the files provided by the rpms Eberhard is hosting. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Sorry, that file does not have the info ARCHIVES.gz has. I use pin also to look at other information, like wher a certain file is, even if the program is not installed, licence info, README files and a lot more. houghi -- Quote correct (NL) http://www.briachons.org/art/quote/ Zitiere richtig (DE) http://www.afaik.de/usenet/faq/zitieren Quote correctly (EN) http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html

Than the file mentioned above is what you need. More info at: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/home.html#contents This file contains all available rpms: ftp://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/10.0-i386/base -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

I want more then just a list of rpm's. I do not just want a list of
README's, I want the actual README. I also want to directly read the
description.
First an example of a non-installed rpm, bsd-games. Below that the info
of an installed rpm, slrn. As you will see, pin gives a LOT more
information then the info that is available in Contents-i386.gz. Something
fun to do is the following:
# pin License:|awk -FLicense: '{print $2}'|sort|uniq -c|sort -nr|less
Now try that with your file. ;-)
I have snipped a LOT in the following examples.
# pin bsd-games
pin 0.29 - package info for bsd-games
------------------------------------------------------------------
*** no rpm named bsd-games installed
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
*** zgrep bsd-games /var/lib/pin/ARCHIVES.gz
------------------------------------------------------------------
---> ./CD1/suse/i586/bsd-games-2.13-339.i586.rpm
---> ./CD2/suse/src/bsd-games-2.13-339.src.rpm

Ah, now I read what asked "most complete" not "most up to date"... Ah well, you have something to do now :) -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
