[opensuse] CUPS with no login available
I've done a clean install of Leap 15.1 (previous 43.2). The CUPS interface is available in the browser. Clicking on "Add Printer" goes to a screen saying login is required. I don't see any login screen or link. What needs to change? TIA, Jeffrey -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

With CUPS, this is not the usual kind of pop-up window - it's required for apache authentication, I doubt if any browser would suppress it. In the background - yes, that is possible I suppose. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (15.9°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Generally if it is an administrator task that cups need a user/pass for, the dialog is usually right on the page to take the input. (you will have previously needed to configure that, generally with lppasswd) -- David C. In (Edit -> Preferences -> Privacy & Security) my Firefox (v. 60.7.2 and prior) I have "pop-up windows" blocked, but entered an Exception for the local host's IP address. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

If it was blocked, you should get a text line above saying that FF blocked a window. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

My default browser is Chromium. It is a known problem that it will not show the authentication window/popup/dialog in Leap 15.1. Firefox works fine. Jeffrey -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Probably a silly question but if you already know the source of your difficulty, (a) why not tell everybody to start with? (b) why not switch to Firefox for this purpose? (assuming there isn't a way to configure chromium to allow the popup?)
