Thanks, website updated to "/etc/apt/sources.list"
............................................................. 2) am getting error message :-
" E: Malformed line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse) "
This is my /etc/apt/sources.list :- # created by aptate rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/8.0-i386 ximian security base update kde gnome mozilla extra usr-local-bin rpm-src ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/8.0-i386 ximian security base update kde gnome mozilla extra usr-local-bin
They need to be on big line. If you "grep rpm sources.list" you should see all components from ximian up to usr-local-bin
# created by aptate rpm ftp://ftp.funktronics.ca/pub/rpm/apt SuSE/8.0-i386 funktronics rpm-src ftp://ftp.funktronics.ca/pub/rpm/apt SuSE/8.0-i386 funktronics
See above Do you really want to leave the components ximian and base in (see the hints section at the webpage)

. . . Is it OK to use wvdial as root, to connect to the Internet, and, then, as Root, to execute <apt-get update>
It is like it is. Isn't YOU doing the same? -- Richard
