Trying to install Staroffice beta 6.0, receiving output/errormessage: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Hi, I'm trying to install Sun Staroffice beta 6.0, receiving output/errormessage: =========================================================================== root@pinguin:/media/cdrom2/linux > ./so-6_0-beta-bin-linux-en.bin /net glibc version: 2.2.2 Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Invalid XDM-AUTHORIZATION-1 key (failed key comparison) ./so-6_0-beta-bin-linux-en.bin: cannot connect to X server :0.0 It might have to do with the fact, that DISPLAY is set to ":0.0" , However I do not know what to change. I'm running SuSE 7.2 prof. Updated to kde2.2.2, first with qt 2.3.2, but after an extremely slow konqueror etc. back to the original qt 2.3.0. and then update to qt 2.3.1 using the rpm from trolltec. Thanks for any ideas, Matt

Wild guess: You are logged in as a "normal" user open a term and made su - the $DISPLAY variable is okay, but you have to allow other user (in that case root) to use the Display. open another term and type: xhost +localhost then it should work HTH, rgds Luc

Hi Luc and Anders, this was the problem, "sux" made it working. What a difference a simple x can make! Thanks, I even understand why it works now! Matt On Saturday, 29. December 2001 19:26, Anders Dahlqvist wrote:

yes, that was it. <snip>
you have to allow other user (in that case root) to use the Display.

and it does!

Try 1. Logging in as root from kdm, or 2. # xhost +localhost before logging in as root. JDL
