Re: [SuSE Linux] Setting up a CD-R system
There is a good howto about CD-R!!! With good hardware pointers, because Linux doesn't support them all. ----------

Call for comments, ideas, experiences: I just got the go-ahead to start using linux in an official capacity at a major corporation. I need to set up a dedicated box to archive data on CDs for review by an outside regulatory agency. The goal is to make a daily WORM drive archive CD that cannot be tampered with. The firm was going to spend US$6000 on a dedicated system, but I brought up the idea of using linux and they went for it! I have the idea that I could hang a CD-R off an old 486 running linux and attach it to one of our many sparc-SunOS systems (maybe on a serial port?). If the 486 will do it, the cost would be that of the CD-R drive, say $400-$600 if I splurge on a SCSI external unit. Soooo, if anyone has any recomendations on the CD drives, the software, or the security aspect...
