Evolution, SuSE 8.1 and attachments
Using Evolution on a computer with SuSE 8.1, attachments can not be called from within Evo, but rather the attachments need to be saved to disk and then the attached file is opened from the hard disk using the appropriate application. How can this behaviour be fixed so that attachments to Evo can be called while viewing email. This appears to be a SuSE 8.1 issue. With SuSE 8.0 and Evo the attachments can be opened by write clicking on the attachment and selecting from one of the offered choices (Save to disk or open with .... Openoffice, Adobe, mpegplayer etc.). With SuSE 8.1 the only available option is to Save to Disk. On the SuSE 8.1 computer the file associations are set in KDE and I recently used a Gnome session on that machine to re-set the associations for Gnome. Tried to use a KDE shell to go to gnomecc and found that the file associations were BLANK, used a gnome session and gnome setting tool found the associations to be in place. This issue recently came up on the evolution list and has not been resolved. It appears to only afflict SuSE 8.1. After the problem was raised on the evo list, I spent some time on the SuSE 8.1 computer trying to get a fix and have been spectacularly unsuccessful; and of course this is my wife's computer so there is a witness. Any suggestions from this list? I kind of suspect it has something to do with SuSE 8.1 implementation of Gnome. All version of evo from before 1.0 to 1.2.2 have worked on SuSE except for the SuSE 8.1. The computer in question is using SuSE 8.1 pro with YOU updates; Evolution 1.2.1 Rubber Turnip; the Gnome session files from the SuSE 8.1 CD's, and KDE 3.0.4. Suggestions greatly appreciated. -- Ralph Sanford - If your government does not trust you, rsanford@telusplanet.net - should you trust your government? DH/DSS Key - 0x7A1BEA01
