[opensuse] Update issue
openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 here, and yesterday an update showed up for boost to fix an issue with packages being left behind when zypper dup is run. When I try to update the package, I get the following error message: libboost_date_time1_36_0-1.36.0-9.5.x86_64 requires boost-license = 1.36.0, but this requirement cannot be provided Anyone else seeing this or know what steps I should take next? Just a guess, but I would say you got caught between build completion and the missing package had not been built yet. Try again later or tomorrow and see if it clears up on it's own. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Actually no ... It seems to be a buggy update. Please report this in bug 544958 :( Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks, Marcus - I'm assuming that the 1.36 packages were packages that were left behind from the zypper dup and that's why I'm seeing the error? Probably. The update should have fixed this issue if I remember correctly. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Oh, damn! Seems I botched that update :( I'm very sory for that!
Anyone else seeing this or know what steps I should take next?
I'll have a look at it first thing tomorrow when I'm back at work. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks, sounds like there won't be a fix other than having the user remove the packages manually? I saw the bug was closed WONTFIX today by Coolo. Yepp, after I talked to him. The reason for your problem is a bug in the 11.1 boost packages that was fixed for 11.2 and that we can't really fix for 11.1 without lots of work. What you should do would be to do zypper rm $(rpm -qa | grep 'libboost.*1_36.*') noting the application packages zypper will want to delete and install them new with 'zypper in'. Sounds good - is there any reason why I wouldn't want to just use rpm to remove the package? (ie, any database considerations?) Zypper just offers the added ability to resolve dependencies, which in case of removal of a library removes all apps that need it. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks, Philipp, that solved the issue for me. :) The only program that I needed to reinstall was mp3diags, if anyone's tracking that information.
