[opensuse] 13.1 installing troubles
I installed 13.1 with an iso DVD on my Acer e-machine. The next time I started up and at the moment when the KDE icon appeared and was still unsharp all blocked, leaving only diagonal lines at the screen. This also occurred when I started the second time with a KDE-live disk. Suggestions how to solve this will be very appreciated! A little more specifics please. What kind of video card, what model, etc. It could be be that live CD had drivers for your card but these have to be specially installed once you convert to a real install (for license reasons). -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I work with an Acer emachine EL1352 processor AMD Athlon II 160u 800MHz nVidia GeForce 6100 nForce 430 2D driver nouveau 3D driver nouveau Gallium (8.04) openSUSE 12.2 (x86_64) KDE 4.8.5 (4.8.5) "release 2" That's the situation from wich I tried to install 13.1 In both cases, the install and the use of the live disk ended in totally blocked desk top André den Oudsten -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

everybody have to know burned optical disks are not reliable. Many last forever, but some do verify and are bad some minutes after that. USB flash card are a bit better, at least the booting ones (do not have to be mounted/umounted) but many installs fail because somewhere a bit is wrong, and this nobody can do anything - I suspect it may often come from the reader and the writer being misaligned, but it's just a guess. so if ever an install fail, try with an other disk... and pray :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Any different procedure (plugged to ethernet, different Internet Provider or location, etc...)? Or just dust or oil attached on the optical reader or disc. fingerprints are terrible... it's possible to wash the optical disk (not the reader , of course :-)), with water and soap, washing the hands in ther same time. Dry it with toilet paper sometime works when there no other solution - I could recover very old disks like this jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

In order to be of much help, we need to know the output of "lspci | grep VGA" at the very least. Preferably provide output from /var/log/Xorg.0.log via susepaste.org or other web location, not as part of an email. The exact complete Acer model might be helpful too. Putting nomodeset on boot cmdline or using the failsafe Grub stanza might help you acquire and provide this information, but if you do it, then we'll need /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old instead or in addition. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
