I am goping to start over again... Have purchased a 160g Maxtor. Running an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe board Atalon 2500 CPU with 512 RAM (have another 512 to add later, but as long as I am dual with Win98 512 is max). Suggestions for setting up this new HD paritions are needed. Thanks in advance... ===== Stephen W Sarasota, FL "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine ..." Hi Stephen, You could send me a couple dozen gigs ;-) Seriously, how you set it up depends on your application... are you replacing an existing hd or adding it to the system? Is this your home computer or a server at work? Some background would be helpful. regards, - Carl - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - C. E. I may think about putting it back in to get some of the downloaded programs )eg firebird)that I have added since the orginal install and so save myself the d/l time.
New HD - just for linux and will be slave on primary (Win98 is on primary master)
There is a CD on Secondary master and a second HD for windows on the secondary slave.
Thanks again Stephen W

Stephen, There are many reasonable, but sometimes conflicting, approaches to this. From what you've described, I'd recommend not spending too much time worrying about it. I'd accept YaST2's default settings, possibly with one exception: If you're going to double your RAM in the near future, you can override the default swap partition size and double it now -- instead of resizing it later. Would you mind my asking what you're using for backups? regards, - Carl - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - C. E. Stephan, Addendum/Correction (it's pretty late here, sorry!...) Scratch "resizing it later." Swap lives at the start of the drive for performance reasons; "resizing" later is quite a PITA. I'd double the default size if you're certain about doubling the ram. - Carl - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - C. E.
