[SuSE Linux] ethernet problems: update
Okay, I've gotten my card connected correctly now. It would seem that the PCI slot was bad. Now, on to my new set of problems :-) Some of my services are not working... Originally, I hit the firewall with telnet, but I had the admin let me out. However, I cannot use http, POP3, or any other services other than telnet. It's not even reaching the firewall. My original forays for the telnet session show up on the denial log, but there aren't any other entries. I get a "Connection refused" error for every page that I try. Now, I know that both my gateway and my nameserver work because I can get to my university account using the literal name (rather than the numerical IP address). Does anyone have any clue what could be blocking me within my machine? Which settings should I look at? One note: my domain name is bogus, but I am told that this would not matter. I am sorry for the scanty details, but I thought it would be better to ask you guys which files/settings to look at rather than dumping every config and logfile that I could find... Again, TIA :-) -Chris -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.1 GCS/CC/MC d- s+:+ a-- C++ US P L++ E W++ N- o?
