I'm used to Gnome but am considering KDE with my move to SUSE 9.1. One oddity remaining is configuring the screensavers. Under Gnome, I could configure which savers were used by the Random setting individually. It appears that, in KDE, Random picks from all available savers, with only the options to ignore OpenGL and screen-manipulation. Is there any way to get finer control over the screensavers used, without having to set it manually? Use xscreensaver from the command-line instead of kscreensaver. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Use xscreensaver from the command-line instead of kscreensaver.
Does this cause any conflict, or is the KDE tool simply a config layer on top of xscreensaver? xscreensaver is *not* kde. It does not seem to me to make much sense to run two different screensaver apps at the same time. I would think that that would probably cause some concern and possibly conflicts. The statement was to 'Use xscreensaver from the command-line instead of kscreensaver.' Key-Word: instead. Open the ControlCenter and disable the kde screensaver. Run xscreensaver-demo Play with it. Then, RTFM: man xscreensaver man xscreensaver-command man xscreensaver-demo man xscreensaver-getimage man xscreensaver-getimage-file man xscreensaver-getimage-vidoe man xscreensaver-gl-helper You can do as much or as little as you like. The first thing to consult when you have a question about a new or different piece of software is the doc's, RTFM. Then you will probably have questions, but in the meantime, you will know the parameters and possible operations that you can perform. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Yeah, I know thanks. What I *didn't* know was whether the KDE screensavers were using xscreensaver or not! And you have now answered this for me - thanks. It has been *my* experience that nearly *all* the apps named xsomething or xother and x-apps and not kde/gnome/etc. And there are many of them. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
