[SuSE Linux] Re: Cannot install gIDE
Hi all, I sent a mail to gIDE mailing list (gIDE is an IDE which make use of gtk) because when I run the gIDE binary version (compiled for linux) I get "can't resolve symbol ' _register_frame_info'". Besides I cannot compile gIDE from source. I installed in /usr/local the latest version of gtk and glib. I still have gtk which comes with SuSE 5.3. I receive a message from gIDE mailing list which says that this kind of error is related to a broken compiler used to compile libc. I'm pretty interested in your opinion about such a subject. TIA Maurizio This is the message I received from gIDE mailing list. Hi Maurizio, thanks for your mail to gide-list@gide.pn.org. After looking around quite a while in the discussion of the Linux-World i am confirmed that your problem is not caused by the gIDE-code itself. Result: !!! If you use egcs, switch to gcc-2.8.1 !!! gcc worked fine for me (with glib-1.1.5 and gtk+-1.1.5). Hopefully this will help you a bit. - Spit on me if i directed your focus into the wrong direction. greetings and CU Gert PS: I cannot resist to include a messages of an unhappy egcs-developer that i have found ;-)

Uh oh... I've got to hide... fast!
Ok. Let me get this... RH is compiling their libc with a broken compiler (yes, it's broken!) that makes a symbol (__register_frame_info) that's not intended to be there be there? And Netscape uses RH to compile its stuff?
Sparc ppl, do you have any reference as to why did Ultralinux do this? Is RH-i386 5.2 doing this too? Are they using egcs to compile the distribution now?
Can we *please* get in touch with s/o at Netscape *and* RH to get this fixed asap?
Nice meeting you guys, I'm dead.
