does linux have scsi probe functionality??
hello, Does linux have something like scsi probe on solaris or HPUX to see what scsi devices are in the system? I need to find out what device name a sony scsi tape drive has on redhat 7.2..... I've done lsdev and I don't see it there..... also looked at dmesg....no luck. doing remote management...so no gui...I think that hardware browser might show that....but not sure. Oskar
It's a hoaky way to do it, but you can use cdrecord with the "-scanbus" option. - Herman On Thu, 3 Oct 2002, pheonix1t wrote: ->hello, ->Does linux have something like scsi probe on solaris or HPUX to see what ->scsi devices are in the system? "cat /proc/scsi" might give you the info you need. //Anders -- 'Deserves [death]. I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.' --Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Also helpful is Kurt Garloff's handy rescan-scsi-bus.sh script (scsi package) in case you forgot to turn your tape on before booting. -- -ckm
