Hi George.
Painful eh? It took us 4 months to get ttf working.
:-)
And now, after all that bother, X 4.0 does it all for us!
I knew this before I started. But I guess it'll be another 3-4 month (SuSE 7.0/6.5) untill it's ready to use. So it's not yet wasted. And don't forget the experiance ;-)
To answer your question, we found that the best way to use the ttf's was to convert them back to type1's. Put the pfb (or pfa) and afm files in your font path using the ttf2pt1 utility. Or of course get the new X server. Juergen has more patience with fonts than we have so he may have done all the Xfree stuff for us already. Just *try* to find the correct version for
Yes. And I got a bash script (for my setup) that will -at least prepare- the nessesarry stuff. All you definately need are backups of some (to modify) files and a lightharted view of doing things to your system. I said that to George in a personal mail: the good thing (about StarOffice) is that you build a tar archive of /opt/Office51 do whatever you like and worst case run "rm -r *" and "tar xfvz foo.tar". There are no hidden files in c:\windows\system or c:\god\knows\where.
your system though.
Advantage: you can print the fonts. Probably Disadvantage: Netscape looks awful.
It depends. If you look to CSS page... it looks better
And: not staroffice unless you output first to file, tweak ghostsc. .. Not here.
yes. keep a backup of it's default print driver as well... ;-) The worst is, there is a way for SO, but none known for other apps. Still some fonts crash SO and I still need to investigate. Steve, I have to rethink about the perl scrip tyou once sent, I have a vague feeling it's helpful, but need to try.
Tip: call the converted font arialt1 (for example) for arial. Then you can print arial and see arial as poorly a converted representation of the original as the original without having to knock out the ttserver. Yep, I had to read it twice too.
Hey, nice Hylafax docs.
Best wishes from Steve & Clara at FeF, Spain.
