Ok ; I had help setting up the eth0 and eth1 on the machine I am using now.Eth0 gets an IP via DHCP, but I assigned 192.168.0.1 to ETH1 and it shows as being active.NOw on the Pentium I can not manage to get an ethernet card detected.I am going through all the steps in yast and still nothing.I have no idea how to install the drivers for the card (as I had help with my first machine).I try to run "/etc/rc.config" and I get the message "permission denied"Whats the deal? And if I do manage to get it up and running will the addr 192.168.0.2 work?Any help would be appreciated!!!!Thanks. Donnie
/etc/rc.config is not an executable. The permission denied is because it does not have the execute bit set. Don't set it. This file turns on and off various services. If you are a novice, use YAST instead of editting it directly. Does the ethernet card get detected at boot. Try "dmesg | more" and look for the card info. Also "more /var/log/boot.msg". Or reboot and use shift+pageup to scroll back looking for the info. If the card is not detected, yast can't configure it. Do the lights on the card light properly? For those of us who did not keep the first message, what is the network card? Jeffrey Quoting Donnie Linville <dlinvil1@tampabay.rr.com>:
