Has anyone tried a wacom tablet with opensuse 10.0 RC1? I have a wacom PenPartner. When I plug it in (USB) it isn't even detected. Just wondered if anyone had any success with it or a similar model and perhaps could enlighten me (or is there something sinister going on?). Thanks a mill. Eddie

Dont know what a "PenPartner" is but I have a working & detected Intuos 3 (wonderful tool !!!) (well working as in working as a mouse .. there is the wacom project on sourceforge for things like pressure sensitivity etc.)(Hopefully this will be included in SuSE one day !!!) on SuSE 9.3. Maybe try some things with the YaST X-tablet (Input-Devices) configuration & the YaST mouse configuration . Maybe something'll work. Good Luck. ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Messenger - NEW crystal clear PC to PC calling worldwide with voicemail http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com

I've just had a go at installing my old Graphire 2 USB on my Dell Laptop where I'm testing RC1. Works very well, including pressure sensitivity in the Gimp - actually it works a lot better than I managed to get it in 9.3 on my main machine. Especially the pen's rocker switch acting as left and middle mouse button. OpenSUSE RC1 has the most stable recent stable Wacom driver from linuxwacom.sourceforge.net - search for wacom in YaST and install the package x11-input-wacom at least. There is a package of tools available, too. The sf site lists PenPartner as supported, so you should be lucky. To get it working, go to YaST->Graphics Card and Monitor Select Tablet For my Graphire I selected the "Graphire/Intuos (USB)" In the "Port and Mode" tab I switched off the Tilt option (Graphire doesn't have this feature) and the BottomX and BottomY options - on the "Electronic Pens" I enabled the Pen and Eraser, and disabled the Tilt and BottomX|Y options for each. Save changes and restart X - the tablet should work to move the pointer about. I have a USB mouse and Synaptics pad configured on the laptop - so SaX2 configured the tablet to use Mouse[5], Mouse[7] and Mouse[9] if you inspect xorg.conf. The Tablet, Pen and Eraser respectively. To enable the Gimp to use pressure-sensitivity, you need to go to File->Preferences->Input Devices and click the "Configure Extended Input Devices" button. Select Mode: "Screen" for each of the 'devices' created in SaX2. Save the preferences, and try drawing. There is a slight glitch in the Gimp where the pen tool seems to get stuck when you leave the image window - the cursor is unable to select tools, menus or colours, until you use the keyboard to select a menu. The cure is a manual edit of xorg.conf to change the main mouse to use a device file other than "/dev/input/mice" - on my laptop I changed the USB mouse and Synaptics pad to use "/dev/input/mouse0" and "/dev/input/mouse1" respectively. Seems to work OK, so far. For the penpartner, the options may be different, but I expect the procedure would be much the same. Hope this helps, Jason PS. Looking forward to installing the retail edition on my Athlon XP 2400 main box - the performance gain on my 1Ghz Dell laptop has been superb! Well done Novell, SUSE and the community for an excellent distro. :-)
